NORTHEAST WISCONSIN – The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is encouraging landowners to enroll their properties for this fall’s Gun Deer Hunt for Hunters with Disabilities.
The annual hunt provides hunting opportunities for individuals with disabilities and relies on private landowners across the state to make the program possible. Landowners interested in participating must submit an application by July 1.
To qualify, properties generally must have at least 60 acres available for hunting and be able to accommodate a minimum of three hunters. The DNR recommends maintaining a density of no more than one hunter for every 20 acres of land. Properties that do not meet the acreage or hunter requirements may still be considered on a case-by-case basis.
The 2026 Gun Deer Hunt for Hunters with Disabilities will take place Oct. 3-9 on properties officially enrolled in the program.
A change to the program this year allows eligible hunters additional opportunities during the Oct. 10-11 Youth Deer Hunt weekend. During those dates, qualified hunters may hunt statewide on public land or on private property where they have permission, regardless of whether the property is enrolled in the program.
Participating landowners will also be required to submit a complete list of hunters they plan to host by Sept. 15. The list must include each hunter’s name, phone number and DNR customer identification number.
DNR officials say the program continues to provide valuable outdoor recreation opportunities while helping connect hunters with disabilities to accessible hunting locations throughout Wisconsin.
Additional information and enrollment details are available through the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.
