Vince Sigl Repeats As Top Golfer In D2

Seymour senior Vince Sigl claimed the Division 2 individual state championship. Sigl followed an opening-round 71 with a tournament-low 68 on Day 2 to finish at 139, four strokes clear of Altoona junior Elliot Skinner.
Sigl’s closing round featured one of the best performances in the field and helped him pull away from a tightly packed leaderboard. His championship effort capped a standout high school career and gave Seymour an individual state champion on the sport’s biggest stage.
Winneconne captured the WIAA Division 2 boys golf state championship in dramatic fashion Tuesday at University Ridge Golf Course in Madison, defeating Edgewood in a playoff after both teams finished regulation tied at 620.
The Wolves entered the final round four shots behind Rice Lake but fired a tournament-best 304 on Day 2 to climb into a share of the lead with Edgewood, which carded a 301. The two teams headed to a sudden-death playoff, where Winneconne secured the state title on the first extra hole.
Senior Austin Dobbe led the Wolves with a fourth-place individual finish at 149 after rebounding from an opening-round 78 with an impressive 71 on Tuesday. Senior Parker Groff added a tie for 11th at 153, while junior Sawyer Krueger improved by nine strokes in the final round to finish at 161. Junior Jackson Larson carded a 163, and junior Sully Ramthun finished at 165 as Winneconne completed its championship run.

Shiocton Freshman Owen Reese Caps Impressive Season with Top-25 Finish
Shiocton freshman Owen Reese closed out a standout season with a strong showing at the WIAA Division 3 Boys Golf State Championship, earning a 25th-place finish at University Ridge Golf Course in Madison.
Competing against the state’s top Division 3 golfers, Reese carded a two-day total of 166. After shooting an 86 in the opening round, the freshman responded with one of the better bounce-back performances in the field, improving by six strokes with an 80 on the tournament’s final day.
Reese’s final-round improvement allowed him to climb the leaderboard and secure a top-25 finish in his first state tournament appearance. He finished just one stroke behind the top 24 and was only 11 shots off a top-five finish in a competitive field.

Redbirds Place 4th Among State’s Best
De Pere delivered one of the top performances in program history at the WIAA Division 1 Boys Golf State Championship, finishing fourth overall with a two-day score of 601 at University Ridge Golf Course in Madison.
Freshman Grant Lawton led the way for De Pere, turning in a remarkable state tournament debut. Lawton fired rounds of 72 and 71 to finish at 143, good for 10th place individually and earning a spot among the tournament’s top performers.
De Pere showcased impressive depth throughout the event. Junior Cooper Eakin tied for 33rd at 153, while fellow freshman Palmer Anderson bounced back from an opening-round 81 with a strong 73 on Day 2 to finish tied for 39th at 154. Junior Jonah Garot made one of the biggest improvements in the field, shaving 12 strokes off his first-round score with a 73 on Tuesday to finish at 158. Junior Cam Bjorge rounded out the Redbirds’ scoring group at 161.
