OCONTO AND OUTAGAMIE COUNTIES, WI – Motorists in both Oconto and Outagamie counties should prepare for ongoing road construction as major highway improvement projects continue to move forward this week.
Highway 22 Reconstruction Advances in Gillett
In Oconto County, crews are entering another phase of the Highway 22 reconstruction project in the City of Gillett.
Workers are scheduled to begin installing storm sewer infrastructure near the East Washington Street intersection before progressing south toward West Park Street. Construction crews will also continue removing pavement and performing road base work between Elm Avenue and Finnegan Lake Road.
Highway 22 remains closed to through traffic as work continues. Local access restrictions are also expected in active construction zones as crews complete various stages of the project.
Drivers traveling through the area are encouraged to follow the posted detour route utilizing County Highway R and County Highway H around the work zone.
Highway 96 Improvements Continue in Grand Chute
Meanwhile, in Outagamie County, construction remains active along Highway 96, also known as West Wisconsin Avenue, in the Town of Grand Chute.
The two-mile rehabilitation project stretches from Casaloma Drive to North Badger Avenue and includes pavement repairs, resurfacing work and bridge improvements designed to extend the life of the corridor.
This week, crews will be saw-cutting pavement, completing base patching operations and installing storm sewer infrastructure at multiple locations throughout the project area. New traffic signal foundations have also been installed at several major intersections along the route.
The Highway 96 project is expected to continue through the end of October.
Motorists traveling through Grand Chute should expect lane restrictions, reduced speeds and construction crews working throughout the corridor. Drivers are encouraged to allow extra travel time and remain alert for changing traffic patterns in both project areas.
