WAUPACA COUNTY, WI – Drivers in Waupaca County should plan for continued construction delays this summer as several major highway improvement projects remain underway, particularly in and around the New London area.
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is continuing work on U.S. Highway 45 and State Highway 54, with projects focused on roadway resurfacing, interchange improvements, and the construction of a new roundabout at the County D intersection. Officials say the work is part of a larger effort to improve safety and traffic flow through one of the county’s busiest transportation corridors.
Beginning June 1, motorists will encounter another major traffic change as the intersection of U.S. 45 and Highway 15 near New London closes for five days. While that intersection closure is temporary, U.S. 45 remains closed to through traffic as part of the larger project and is expected to stay under detour through July.
Meanwhile, traffic on Highway 54 continues to be reduced to a single lane in each direction through portions of the construction zone while paving operations and storm sewer improvements are completed.
WisDOT is urging drivers to plan ahead, allow additional travel time, and follow all posted detour routes and construction signage while work continues throughout the summer. Officials also remind motorists to slow down and stay alert when traveling through active work zones to help keep both workers and drivers safe.
