SHAWANO, WI – Shawano Pathways is planning a summer full of activities and competitions as the Mountain Bay Trail celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2026.
Matty Mathison with Shawano Pathways says organizers are hoping to encourage people of all ages to experience the trail in new and different ways throughout the summer months.
“We have about 10 experts that are going to share their skills by either guiding things on the trail or at least writing a description so people can do things as a self-guided,” Mathison said.
Mathison says activities planned throughout the anniversary celebration include e-bike rides, plant identification walks, mindfulness walks, and a kids’ art project centered around the Mountain Bay Trail. Organizers are also encouraging residents to participate in competitions and special activities taking place along the trail system.
“The trail cleanup, we’re gonna count that. We had a lot of people out on the trail. You can walk the poetry or photography trail and get credit for that,” Mathison said.
According to Mathison, anyone who collects three or more tokens during the anniversary activities will be entered into prize drawings. Giveaways include prizes ranging from Shawano Rec Center gift cards to a jet ski.
Shawano Pathways says the goal of the anniversary celebration is not only to mark 30 years of the Mountain Bay Trail, but also to continue building community involvement and appreciation for the outdoor recreation opportunities the trail provides.
