Hortonville pushed one of the state’s top teams to the limit Saturday morning, but Franklin escaped with a narrow 4-3 victory in a nonconference showdown at Franklin High School.
The No. 13 Polar Bears (18-6) battled back and forth with the No. 4 Sabers (21-2) in a tightly contested game that came down to the final innings. Despite the loss, Hortonville showed resilience against one of Wisconsin’s premier programs after entering the matchup having won three of its previous five games.
Franklin, coming off a demanding stretch against Indian Trail and Kenosha Tremper, continued its strong season by holding off the late Hortonville push. The Sabers improved to 21-2 with the win, while the Polar Bears dropped to 18-6.
Although official individual statistics were unavailable in the game report, both teams delivered strong defensive efforts throughout the afternoon. Hortonville kept pressure on Franklin from start to finish and proved it could compete with one of the top-ranked teams in the state.
