BONDUEL, WI- A semi crash early Tuesday morning claimed the life of a driver in Shawano County.
According to the Shawano County Sheriff’s Office, dispatch received a report around 4:54 a.m. of a semi-tractor trailer that had flipped on Highway 29 near Porter Road in the Town of Hartland. Deputies, fire and EMS responded to find all eastbound lanes blocked and the driver trapped inside the cab.
An eye witness reported a semi rollover accident near the construction site.
“Bonduel Fire and Ambulance are on scene and a person who is behind me said traffic was backed up all the way to the first Shawano exit.”
The eye witness call came in around 5:30 a.m.
The 59-year-old Antigo-area man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators say the truck was traveling westbound through a construction zone when a driver-side tire entered a cut-out section of roadway, blew, and caused the driver to lose control. The semi overturned into the median, with the cab coming to rest in the eastbound lanes.
The eastbound lanes were closed for more than four hours as investigators cleared the scene.
The crash remains under investigation.
