Residents are being warned about a new text message scam circulating in the area that falsely claims to be a “Final Enforcement Notice” from a Wisconsin court demanding immediate payment.
Officials say the messages are not legitimate and are designed to create panic so recipients act quickly without verifying the information.
Authorities stress that Wisconsin courts do not send enforcement notices by text message, do not request payments through QR codes or random links, and do not threaten immediate enforcement through unsolicited messages.
Residents who receive one of these texts are urged not to click any links, scan QR codes, send money, or provide personal information. Instead, they should delete the message. Anyone unsure about a notice is encouraged to contact the court directly using a trusted, legitimate phone number.
Officials say anyone who already clicked a link or shared personal or financial information should contact their bank immediately and report the incident.
Authorities remind residents that scammers often rely on urgency and fear to pressure victims into acting quickly, and they encourage people to slow down and verify suspicious messages before taking any action.
