SHIOCTON, WI- The School District of Shiocton has unanimously approved a resolution to request a one-year waiver from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction after missing school days due to flooding. The district had already used its two built-in snow days before flooding forced eight additional closures, leaving no remaining days to make up the lost time.
Superintendent Garrett Zimmerman said the waiver request is necessary because there are no remaining options to add instructional time this school year.
Meanwhile, damage assessments are underway as the state determines whether to request federal disaster assistance through FEMA, with a deadline of May 23 to submit a declaration request.
