James “Jim” A. Krause passed away peacefully at his home on April 23, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He demonstrated remarkable strength and resilience throughout his four-year battle with cancer.
Jim was born on March 23, 1944, in Oconto Falls, Wisconsin, to the late Lyman and Olga (nee) Krause. He graduated from Gillett High School in 1962 and, just three days later, left for the Great Lakes Naval Training Center. Jim proudly served his country in the United States Navy for four years and four months, including time aboard the USS Lake Champlain, USS Springfield, and USS Steinaker.
While stationed in Connecticut, Jim met the love of his life, Gloria Le Blanc, in Guilford. The couple was united in marriage on March 7, 1964, in Elizabeth City, North Carolina. Following his military service, Jim joined the Guilford Police Department, where he served for four years. During that time, Jim and Gloria welcomed their children: Mitch, Wendy, and Julia.
In 1970, Jim and his family moved to Clintonville, where he continued his law enforcement career with the Clintonville Police Department until his retirement in 1993. Over the years, Jim rose to the rank of Lieutenant and later served as the department’s investigator.
Jim was an active member of Christus Lutheran Church in Clintonville, where he volunteered as an usher and served on the property committee. He was also a skilled and passionate woodworker, creating countless projects that will be cherished by family and friends.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife, Gloria; his daughters, Julia (Claus) Michelsen and Wendy (Pete Ullman) Krause; and his “forever” daughter-in-law, Jean Ward. He is further survived by his grandchildren, Kyle Krause, Dalton Krause, Caden Krause-Ullman, Conner (fiancée Cassie Martin) Michelsen, Kai Michelsen, Amanda (Gabe Antiel) Boegh, and Lydia Krause-Ullman; and great-grandchildren, Eben, Ethan, Samara, Eva, Elijah, and Emma Rose. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Mitchell Krause; his brother, Gerald Krause; and his sister, Sandra (Jim) Ostrowski.
