NORTHEAST WISCONSIN – Several area student-athletes are being recognized among the best in Wisconsin, as the WIAA announced its 2026 Scholar-Athlete Award recipients, highlighting excellence both in the classroom and in competition.
Among the honorees are athletes from Bonduel High School, Wittenberg-Birnamwood High School, Gillett High School, Almond-Bancroft High School, and Winneconne High School, showcasing the strength of local programs across multiple divisions.
Leading the way locally, Bonduel produced two recipients in Division 3 with Ryan Westrich and Mariah Wondra both earning the prestigious honor. Wondra has been a standout distance runner, while Westrich has excelled as a multi-sport athlete, making Bonduel one of just a handful of schools statewide to have multiple winners this year.
In Division 2, Brody Schaffer of Winneconne was recognized on the boys side, while Rory Salvesen earned honors for Wittenberg-Birnamwood on the girls side, continuing a strong tradition of academic and athletic success in both programs.
Division 4 also featured area representation, with Bradyn Wendorff of Gillett earning recognition on the boys side and Mya Dernbach representing Almond-Bancroft among the girls honorees.
The 2026 Scholar-Athlete Award winners will be honored at a ceremony on May 3 at SentryWorld in Stevens Point, recognizing a group that continues to set the standard for excellence across Wisconsin high school athletics.
