SHAWANO, WI – Shawano Area United Way spent April hosting a series of device distribution events aimed at improving digital access across the community.
The events, part of the statewide Techquity WI initiative, were held in partnership with SAM25, Safe Haven, and the Shawano County Library. Staff from Capital Credit Union also participated, providing financial literacy resources to attendees.

Through the program, eligible residents received loaned laptops at no cost and were enrolled in a digital navigation support program in partnership with United Way Fox Cities. So far, nearly 70 devices have been distributed across Shawano and Menominee counties to households without a computer at home who meet income eligibility requirements.
United Way officials say recipients are already using the devices for a variety of purposes, including continuing education, job searching, launching small businesses, and managing family responsibilities more effectively.

Organizers say the effort addresses growing barriers to technology access as more everyday tasks move online, noting that reliable internet and computer access remain out of reach for many households.
The Techquity WI program is supported through federal funding provided by the American Rescue Plan Act and administered through the State of Wisconsin.
