GREEN BAY, WI – The Shawano girls flag football team turned in a dominant performance on Saturday, storming through the competition to win the Green Bay Packers Flag Football Open in impressive fashion.
Shawano set the tone early in pool play, delivering a statement win over Verona with a commanding 61-0 shutout. The offense clicked from the opening drive, while the defense held firm, not allowing a single point.
They followed that up with another strong showing against Appleton North, earning a 28-6 victory to finish round robin play undefeated and secure the tournament’s No. 1 seed heading into the championship bracket.
In bracket play, Shawano once again matched up with Appleton North and proved their earlier win was no fluke. The team controlled the game from start to finish, pulling away for a 34-20 victory to punch their ticket to the championship game.
The title matchup against Green Bay East proved to be the toughest test of the day. In a high-scoring battle, Shawano held off a late push to claim a 46-39 win and secure the championship.
