SHAWANO, WI- Shawano Girls Basketball Coach Ryan Koenig has announced that he is resigning after 14 seasons.
Shawano School District made the announcement Friday.
In a letter dated April 10 and sent to players and families, Activities and Athletics Director Kayla Brendemuehl thanked Koenig for his years of service, leadership, and commitment to student-athletes and the school community. The district credited him with playing an important role in building the program and wished him well moving forward.
In his time at Shawano, beginning in 2012, Koenig coached the team to multiple winning seasons and coached the Hawks to the Sectional Finals the last two seasons. He also had the opportunity to coach some of Shawano Girls Basketball all-time leaders. As a Shawano Coach, Koenig eclipsed the 150 win mark and had 6 winning seasons.
District officials said all scheduled basketball activities will continue as planned to maintain stability for players during the transition.
Matti Koehler will serve as interim head coach while the district begins an immediate search for a permanent replacement. School leaders say they are focused on finding a coach who will continue to build on the program’s strengths and support the development of student-athletes both on and off the court.
