WEYAUWEGA, WI – The Weyauwega-Fremont track and field team turned in a strong early-season performance at the Ripon College indoor invite, with the Warhawk boys finishing third and the girls placing fourth in a competitive field. Head coach Nick Winn said meets like this are an important early benchmark for the program. “I like going to indoor meets like that early because it’s a good learning experience, to check to see how many have been working out in the offseason and make sure they’re not sitting on the couch all break,” Wynn said.
The Warhawk boys showed impressive depth, highlighted by sophomore Marcus Benjamin, who captured first place in the 3200 meters with a time of 10:33.58. Winn praised Benjamin’s leadership and upside, saying, “He’s a sophomore only, which is awesome for us and he’s just a lead-by-example guy.” The boys also saw strong relay success, with first-place finishes in both the 4×200 and 4×800 relays, along with a fourth-place finish in the 4×400. Additional contributions came in the hurdles, where Carson Zielke placed third, and in field events, where Jared Bohringer (shot put) and Ethan Koplien (high jump) each earned top-five finishes.
On the girls side, the Warhawks continued to showcase balance across multiple events, finishing with 57.5 team points. The 4×200 relay team led the way with a first-place finish, while Macy Fee dominated the shot put, taking first with a throw of 34 feet, 11.5 inches. The team also added strong performances in the long jump, where Chamille Birdyshaw finished second, and in the 60-meter dash and hurdles, where multiple athletes landed in the top five.
Overall, Winn said the meet provided a valuable glimpse at the team’s potential heading into the outdoor season. With strong performances in sprints, distance, relays, and field events on both sides, the Warhawks demonstrated the kind of depth and versatility that could make them a factor throughout the spring.
