NORTHEAST WISCONSIN – The State of Wisconsin prepares for Severe Weather Awareness Week next week.
Emergency officials say the week is an important opportunity to review safety plans for severe weather threats such as tornadoes, thunderstorms, and flooding. With changing conditions this time of year, preparation can make a critical difference when storms develop.
Residents are encouraged to have multiple ways to receive warnings, including NOAA weather radios, smartphone alerts, and local media. Officials stress that relying on just one source of information can be risky during fast-moving weather events.
Emergency managers also recommend identifying safe shelter locations ahead of time, whether at home, work, or school, so individuals know exactly where to go if a warning is issued.
The goal of Severe Weather Awareness Week is to ensure everyone is informed, prepared, and ready to act before severe weather strikes.
Severe Weather Awareness Week this year is April 13-17. It will include testing and drills.
