Shawano Police were kept busy Thursday with a surge of calls tied largely to storm-related damage across the city.
Throughout the day on April 2nd, officers responded to dozens of reports of downed trees, power lines, and roadway hazards. Many streets were partially or completely blocked by fallen branches, including areas along Lincoln Street, Lafayette Street, and several residential neighborhoods. In multiple cases, utility lines were reported down or sparking, prompting responses from police, fire crews, and Shawano Municipal Utilities.
Several homes also sustained damage. On West Richmond Street, a tree fell onto a house, leaving a hole in the roof. No injuries were reported. Other residents reported power lines pulled from homes, flooding concerns, and dangerous conditions involving live wires.
Police also handled unrelated incidents, including two arrests connected to probation and warrant pickups, a report of reckless driving near East Green Bay Street, and a weapons complaint involving two individuals allegedly seen with what appeared to be a firearm.
The evening brought additional disturbance calls, including a fight at a local hotel and a domestic incident on Acorn Street.
Clintonville Police stayed busy throughout the day yesterday, with a mix of routine patrols and storm-related calls.
Officers conducted numerous business checks overnight and into the evening, particularly along Main Street and other commercial areas, while also increasing patrols in several neighborhoods.
Much of the daytime activity focused on weather-related issues. Police and emergency crews responded to multiple reports of downed utility lines, traffic hazards, and fire calls across the city. Problem areas included Garfield Avenue, Anne Street, and several intersections where debris and hazards blocked roadways.
A domestic incident was reported early in the morning on East 12th Street, while later in the day officers handled a welfare check on North Main Street and an animal bite complaint on 15th Street.
Other calls included a fire alarm on 6th Street, an open-door investigation on South Main Street, and a disabled vehicle near 7th and Main.
Shawano County law enforcement had a busy day as high winds and severe weather triggered a surge in calls across the region.
From early morning through late evening, deputies responded to dozens of traffic hazards, most involving trees down across roadways, power lines ripped from homes, and smoking or sparking electrical wires. Reports came in from nearly every corner of the county — from Highway 153 near Wittenberg to rural roads in Tigerton, Birnamwood, and Shawano. Utility crews from WE Energies, Alliant, and local highway departments were dispatched repeatedly as outages spread.
Several callers reported trees falling directly onto power lines, causing smoke, small fires, and blocked intersections. In one case, a homeowner on Mork Avenue reported a line “ripped off the house and smoking.”
The storms also led to multiple 911 calls, welfare checks for residents without power — including one man on oxygen — and a series of disabled vehicles stranded near fallen debris.
Outside the weather‑related activity, deputies handled a handful of unrelated incidents, including a restraining order violation in Tigerton, a reckless driving complaint near McDonald’s in Shawano, and an assault reported in Eland just after 7 p.m.
Later in the evening, both the Sheriff’s Office and Stockbridge‑Munsee Police responded to a fight in progress on West Vinal Street in Wittenberg. That incident was cleared without further details released.
In total, the Shawano County Sheriff’s Office logged 116 calls for service, while Stockbridge‑Munsee Police handled 16 additional incidents, making it one of the busier days of the spring storm season.
