NORTHEAST WISCONSIN — A longtime nonprofit that has served vulnerable residents across the region is preparing to shut down.
Newcap Inc. announced it will close after months of efforts to stabilize its finances and remain operational. The organization said ongoing financial challenges made it impossible to find a sustainable path forward despite cost-cutting measures, staff reductions and attempts to secure new funding and partnerships.
“This is one of the most difficult moments in our organization’s history,” said Deb Barlament, interim executive director. “Our thoughts are with the individuals and families who depend on these services, as well as with the staff who have dedicated themselves to this mission. We pursued every realistic option available to prevent this outcome.”
For years, Newcap has provided assistance and support services to individuals and families experiencing hardship across northeast Wisconsin. Officials say the closure represents a major loss for the communities the nonprofit served, noting that the needs of those who relied on the agency continue to grow.
Barlament expressed gratitude to the community for its longtime support and encouraged partner agencies and local leaders to work together to help residents affected by the shutdown.
