SHAWANO, WI – Shawano City Clerk Lesley Nemetz is reminding residents to make sure their pets are properly licensed as deadlines approach.
Nemetz says pet owners should bring updated rabies vaccination information with them when visiting City Hall to complete the licensing process. She also noted that the cost to license a pet is $10 if the animal is spayed or neutered, and $15 if it is not.
“The state does assess a $5 late fee after the first, and so just making sure that you have your updated rabies vaccination information with you when you go into City Hall to get them licensed,” Nemetz said.
She emphasized that the late fee is issued by the state, not the City of Shawano, and encourages residents to act early to avoid additional costs.
City officials say licensing helps ensure pets are properly identified and returned home safely if they become lost.
