STEVENS POINT, WI – The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) Board of Control approved a new five-year strategic plan and several conference realignment changes during its March meeting in Stevens Point.
Two changes affect Northeast Wisconsin schools. The Shawano/Bonduel co-op boys hockey team will move from independent status to join the Great Northern Conference, giving the program a formal conference schedule going forward. In another major move, Appleton West High School will leave the Fox Valley Association and join the Bay Conference beginning in the 2027–28 school year as part of broader conference realignment across Wisconsin.
The Board also approved other sport-specific adjustments statewide, advanced two constitutional amendments for membership vote at next month’s annual meeting, and reviewed financial reports and updates on topics like competitive balance and officiating recruitment.
