TOWN OF GREEN VALLEY, WI- The Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation is looking into an officer-involved death that happened early Tuesday morning in the Town of Green Valley.
According to officials, Shawano County Sheriff’s deputies were called to a disturbance at a home in the 2300 block of State Highway 22 at about 1:41 a.m.
When deputies entered the residence, they found a man locked inside a bathroom. Authorities say the man refused to come out and told deputies he had a gun.
Deputies attempted to use less-lethal force, but investigators say it was not effective. Officials report the man then moved toward officers while holding what they believed to be a firearm. One deputy fired their weapon, striking the man.
Emergency medical services were called and lifesaving efforts were attempted at the scene. The man was taken to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
No law enforcement officers or members of the public were injured during the incident.
Investigators say the situation was recorded on deputies’ body-worn cameras.
As is standard procedure, the deputy involved has been placed on administrative leave while the investigation continues.
