GILLETT, WI – The Finnegan Lake Walleye Club Fishing Derby will look a little different this year, as organizers shift operations to a new location at Zippel Park in Gillett. Organizer John Hicks says while the derby headquarters has moved, anglers can still register fish caught from any inland waters.
Hicks emphasized that the change in venue has nothing to do with unsafe ice conditions. Despite last week’s stretch of warmer temperatures, he says ice conditions remain solid and anglers are still encouraged to fish Finnegan Lake.
Instead, the move comes down to growth. Hicks says the club has simply outgrown its previous setup on the lake, with increased membership and additional equipment making more space necessary.
