TOWN OF WOLF RIVER, WI – USDA Wildlife Services has confirmed a wolf attack involving a pet dog in the Town of Wolf River in Langlade County. Officials say the incident occurred February 6, though the dog’s owner did not observe puncture wounds and chose not to seek veterinary care.
Wildlife experts are reminding dog owners to use extra caution in areas where wolves are known to be present. Conflicts between wolves and dogs are most common during bear training and hunting seasons, when dogs may travel farther from their handlers.
Authorities note that dogs have also been attacked while pursuing other wildlife, including coyotes, foxes, bobcats, rabbits, and upland birds. Officials encourage hunters and pet owners to stay alert, keep dogs under control, and be aware of wolf activity in the area.
