SHAWANO, WI- Thursday morning was a slippery one for drivers in Shawano County, but accidents that took place could have been prevented, according to Shawano County Sheriff George Lenzner.
“Most of them were slide-ins,” Lenzner said. “Luckily, nobody was hurt seriously.”
Lenzner said most of the accidents were speed related, or related to bad decision making.
“A lot of this stuff could be prevented if people just pay attention. They are driving too fast.”
He said along with slide-ins, there were fender benders and other accidents. “Somebody passed a snowplow on Highway 29 at a high rate of speed,” Lenzner said. “They did get a citation for driving too fast for conditions.”
Shawano County has already had a rough winter, including a semi vs snowplow accident in January. Lenzner said the State Patrol is still investigating that incident and the cause has not yet been determined.
