KESHENA, WI – It was a matchup of two of the top three teams in the CWC-East Conference on Tuesday Night as Bonduel survived and escaped the upset bid from the Menominee Nation Eagles, 54-45.
It was defense the first 3 minutes of the game as no buckets were scored by either team. Menominee Nation then went on a 9-2 run led by Natalie Peters. Peters would be held quiet in the 2nd half as she only scored 12 points total.
The Bears would then kick things into gear as they led 31-28 at the half going on a 16-8 run to end the 1st half. The run was led by Peyton Westrich and Juliana Jacobs.
In the 2nd half, 5 different Bonduel players scored showcasing the depth of scorers. Menominee Nation tried to keep pace with Bonduel but turnovers stifled the Eagles and key shots were made by Bonduel down the stretch.
Leaders for Bonduel were Peyton Westrich with 15 and Cierra Schnell with 12.
Leaders for Menominee Nation were Natalie Peters with 12. Urijah Reevis and Dacey Webster both had 11.
Bonduel improved to 16-2 with the conference win and Menominee Nation dropped to 12-6 overall with the loss.
Bonduel Girls Basketball Coach Jerry Reinke on the runs that the Bears went on, “We’ve been that way all year, kind of streaky. A couple games ago we went 14 minutes without scoring and we rely on our defense to help us in those moments, I think the girls responded well to tonight.”
Bonduel’s next game will be at home vs Manawa on January 30th.
Menominee Nation’s next game will be at Oconto on February 3rd.
