SHAWANO, WI – The Shawano County Sheriff’s Office is raising concerns about dangerous driving behaviors being seen more frequently on local roads. Sheriff George Lenzner says investigators are noticing troubling patterns, with alcohol and inattentive driving consistently playing a role in crashes.
Lenzner says distractions behind the wheel are causing drivers to miss basic traffic controls, creating hazardous situations for other motorists. He notes that even momentary inattention can lead to serious consequences, especially on busy highways and rural roads.
Following a recent crash involving a Shawano County snowplow, Lenzner is also reminding drivers of their legal responsibility to slow down and move over for vehicles working along the roadway. That includes law enforcement squads, snowplows, school buses, and any vehicle displaying emergency or warning lights.
“If you see an officer, plow truck, school bus, or anything with lights, slow down and move over to the passing lane,” Lenzner said. He emphasized that these laws are in place to protect everyone working along the road.
