SHAWANO, WI – While women riders may still be underrepresented on the road, one organization is working to change that perception by building community and confidence among women who ride. Women In The Wind is dedicated to bringing women motorcyclists together, promoting a positive image of women riders, and encouraging safety and education within the motorcycling community.
Pauline Forrest of the Women In The Wind, Wisconsin Northern Lights Chapter, says the organization focuses on three core goals: connecting women who ride, promoting a positive public image of women motorcyclists, and advocating for safety and motorcycle-related issues such as rider rights and basic maintenance. Forrest says these principles guide the group’s activities at both the local and national levels.
Forrest has been involved with Women In The Wind since 1986, first joining the Milwaukee Chapter. Founded in 1979, the organization has grown to more than 1,300 members across six countries and includes three chapters in Wisconsin.
Women interested in learning more or joining are encouraged to visit womeninthewind.org, where they can find information on local chapters, review bylaws, and explore membership options. Forrest says membership costs $30 per year, and it takes just three women to form a new chapter.
She also notes that the Wisconsin Northern Lights Chapter will hold its annual meeting on February 28, offering another opportunity for riders to connect and learn more about the organization.
