CLINTONVILLE, WI – The Clintonville Common Council has approved a letter of intent that moves a proposed solar field at the Clintonville Municipal Airport one step closer to becoming reality.
The proposal calls for a 22-acre solar field featuring more than 10,000 solar panels, developed through a partnership with OneEnergy Renewables and Great Lakes Utilities. City officials emphasize that approving the letter of intent does not guarantee construction of the project, but instead allows engineers and environmental professionals to begin due diligence work to determine whether the site is suitable.
If ultimately approved and built, the 5-megawatt solar field could generate enough electricity to power approximately 1,300 Wisconsin homes each year, according to project estimates.
Officials note that several additional steps would still be required before construction could begin, including further city approvals and reviews involving airport operations and federal aviation guidelines. City leaders say those evaluations will help ensure the project can move forward safely and responsibly if feasibility studies support it.
