SHAWANO, WI – Applications are now being accepted for this year’s Shawano Hometown Heroes banner program, which honors local veterans and active service members for their service to the nation.
The program recognizes active-duty military members and honorably discharged veterans by displaying banners featuring each honoree’s name, branch of service, and a military photo or logo. The banners are installed along South Main Street in Shawano and will be displayed from Memorial Day through approximately Veterans Day.
Organizers say space for banners is limited, and eligibility is restricted to veterans who currently live or have previously lived in the 54166 ZIP code. Each banner costs $250 to sponsor, with funding able to come from the veteran, family members, businesses, or other supporters. The cost covers production and mounting hardware for the banner.
All applications and payments must be submitted by March 31. Additional information and application materials are available at shawanoshometownheroes.com.
The Shawano Hometown Heroes banner program is designed to publicly honor the sacrifices of local veterans while giving the community a visible reminder of those who have served.
