SHAWANO, WI – Former Shawano High School standout and University of Wisconsin–River Falls linebacker Gage Timm is celebrating a historic season after helping the Falcons capture a Division III national championship with a victory over North Central College.
Timm recently joined The Breakfast Club on WTCH to reflect on the long journey that led to a title, crediting former teammates and early program leaders for laying the groundwork.
“Before I got there, we hadn’t had a winning season,” Timm said. “A lot of credit goes out to all those guys that have kind of been through that. They started the turnaround process and getting us over the hump.”
According to Timm, once the Falcons cleared those early hurdles, the program steadily built momentum year after year. UW–River Falls posted nine wins, then seven, before erupting for a 14-win campaign this season. That growth culminated in the program’s Division III national championship, capping off one of the most successful seasons in school history.
After playing the final downs of his college football career on the sport’s biggest Division III stage, Timm is already focused on what comes next. He told WTCH he plans to remain at UW–River Falls to pursue a master’s degree in strength and conditioning.
Timm also shared that he hopes football isn’t finished just yet.
“I’m going to try and train, if I can go CFL or something,” he said.
For Shawano and the surrounding area, Timm’s championship run represents both individual achievement and the payoff of years of steady program growth, proof that persistence and teamwork can turn rebuilding seasons into title-winning ones.
The full interview with Timm will be available soon.
