SHAWANO, WI- A Thursday night shooting on South Sawyer Street remains under investigation as Shawano police work to piece together the events that unfolded inside a residence on Jan. 8.
Officers responded at approximately 9:08 p.m. to a home in the 500 block after receiving reports of gunfire. Several individuals were found at the scene, including one person who had suffered a gunshot wound. The injury was determined to be non-life-threatening. The victim was treated by emergency personnel before being transported by Shawano Ambulance Service for additional medical care.
The response involved multiple agencies, including the Shawano County Sheriff’s Office, Stockbridge-Munsee Police Department, Menominee Tribal Police Department, and Shawano Ambulance.
As the investigation moves forward, police are attempting to locate two people they wish to speak with: 20-year-old Deonte Matchopatow and 19-year-old Derek Corn. Both are considered persons of interest at this stage, and police stress that no conclusions have been reached regarding their involvement.
Anyone who may have information about their whereabouts or who may have recently seen or interacted with them is encouraged to contact authorities. Tips can be shared confidentially, and investigators note that even seemingly minor information could prove valuable. The public is advised not to approach either individual.
