SHAWANO, WI – The City of Shawano is continuing early planning efforts for a new park in the southeast portion of the community, a project that Parks and Recreation Director Matt Hendricks says has been carefully thought out from the beginning.
Hendricks said the need for a new park in that area was identified through planning work with East Central, which helped highlight where future growth and recreational demand would be located. He explained that the park’s design is being guided by the city’s outdoor recreation plan, with a focus on connecting nearby parks and linking new housing developments in the southeast part of Shawano.
According to Hendricks, residents can expect the new park to match the look and feel of Shawano’s existing park system. He said the concept is similar to Arlington Park, describing it as a neighborhood-style park rather than a large venue for major community events.
Hendricks said the park would likely be three to five acres in size and could include amenities such as a playground or pickleball courts, depending on final design decisions. He emphasized that the goal is to create a space that serves nearby residents while complementing the city’s broader park network.
Community input will play a key role as planning continues. Hendricks encourages residents with ideas or questions to contact the Shawano Parks and Recreation Department, noting that construction is still a few years away while planning and design work are completed.
