SHAWANO, WI- Today is the deadline for candidates interested in running for Spring Election seats to turn in papers.
Voters across Wisconsin will see a full slate of local offices on the ballot this spring, as the April election includes positions in the judicial, county, municipal, and school governance levels. If any race requires narrowing the field of candidates, a primary election will be held in February.
Judicial Office on the Ballot
The statewide judicial contest will feature one seat on the Wisconsin Supreme Court. The election is for a 10-year term in District III, as the current justice’s term expires in July 2026.
County Board Seats Up for Election
All county board supervisor positions will be on the April ballot. Supervisors serve two-year terms, and one representative is elected from each supervisory district. Every district seat must be filled this cycle, giving voters the opportunity to select the full county board.
General Municipal Offices
Across Wisconsin municipalities, a variety of typical spring local government positions will be decided. These may include mayors, alderpersons, village trustees, and town supervisors, depending on the community. Local clerks can provide specific information on which offices will appear on their ballots.
School Board Elections
School board member terms are also up for election statewide in April. These positions carry three-year terms beginning April 27, and each district will have its own number of seats open. School board elections occur annually each spring.
Primary If Needed
If the number of candidates for any office exceeds the threshold requiring a narrowing of the field, a spring primary will be held in February to determine which names advance to the April ballot.
Voters are encouraged to check with their local clerks or the Wisconsin Elections Commission website for details on filing deadlines, candidate lists, and sample ballots as the election draws closer.
