HORTONVILLE, WI – Hortonville residents opened their mail over the weekend to find an unexpected invoice, a $28.25 ambulance service fee that was previously included in their property tax bills. Village officials say the charge, which supports the community’s contract with Gold Cross Ambulance, can no longer be listed on tax statements due to state rules requiring such fees to be billed directly to individuals.
Outagamie County officials also confirm that state law prohibits ambulance charges from being added as special assessments or property-based fees, as they must be billed directly to residents. The village emphasizes that the amount residents owe has not changed and says it is working with the county on long-term solutions.
Hortonville residents with questions about the new billing process are encouraged to contact the village office for assistance.
