NORTHEAST WISCONSIN – With most Wisconsin hunting seasons now wrapped up, one key opportunity still remains, the Holiday Antlerless Hunt. Wisconsin DNR Wildlife Biologist Jaqi Christopher says Shawano County could see an increase in activity as hunters take advantage of the extended season, which runs from December 24 through January 1.
Christopher says many local hunters save their tags specifically for this time of year, largely because Shawano County is made up of 97% private land, creating unique harvest patterns. “A lot of our private land hunters are waiting, saving their antlerless tags for those antlerless hunts,” she said. So far, antlerless registrations have come in nearly even with buck totals, with Christopher noting, “It’s basically 50-50 bucks to does.”
She adds that hunters have already logged a solid number of antlerless harvests this season, and the upcoming holiday stretch traditionally brings even more participation.
Christopher reminds hunters that regulations vary by county and encourages everyone to review local guidelines before heading into the woods. Full details and season rules can be found anytime on the Wisconsin DNR website.
