SHAWANO, WI – With winter weather settling into the region, Shawano-Menominee Counties Health Director Nick Mau is urging residents to make sure their vehicles are fully prepared for the harsh months ahead. Mau says a few key steps can make a major difference in keeping drivers safe as conditions worsen.
“Make sure you’re having your mechanic check your battery, anti-freeze, wipers, and windshield washer fluid, get all those things replaced and filled up for the winter season,” Mau said.
He emphasized that tires are one of the most important safety components, noting that worn or thinning tread can quickly become dangerous on icy or snow-covered roads. “Make sure we’re installing good winter tires,” Mau added. “So get those sweet racing tires off the vehicles for the winter.”
Mau also encouraged drivers to ensure all exterior lights are functioning, the oil has been recently changed, and the vehicle’s heating system and brakes are in proper working condition.
