OCONTO FALLS, WI – A former Oconto Falls High School staff member has been arrested following allegations of sexual misconduct, according to a statement released to district families by Superintendent Stuart Russ. The district did not initially name the employee but confirmed the individual had been terminated.
Oconto County Jail records later identified the staff member as 60-year-old Gayle Gander, who was booked Sunday evening on suspicion of sexual misconduct by school staff and fourth-degree sexual assault. Gander is listed on the school’s website as an English teacher and director of the performing arts center.
As of Monday, online court records showed no formal charges had yet been filed, and officials said they did not expect Gander to appear in court that day. Superintendent Russ said the district is deeply disappointed by the nature of the allegations and is fully cooperating with law enforcement. He added that the district is reaching out to any students and families who may have been affected and will continue offering support as the investigation moves forward.
