SHAWANO, WI – The Boys and Girls Club of Shawano’s after-school program at Hillcrest Primary School has been honored with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Wisconsin’s 2025 Outstanding Program Award for its imaginative student-led project, The Magical Donut Shop.
The award-winning program centered on an original play created and performed by 17 kindergarten through second-grade members, who spent the school year designing props and costumes, learning lines, and preparing for a spring performance. Their hard work paid off with a live show that drew an audience of 35 family members.
The project was guided by site manager Tammy Beilfuss and staff members Jen Barta, Micheala Kaquatosh, and Jazzy Siegel, who emphasized creativity, confidence-building, communication skills, and social-emotional development throughout the process.
As part of the celebration, the club partnered with a local nursing home for a donut-coloring contest tied to the play theme. Residents served as judges, and the winning design was transformed into an actual donut and featured for sale for one week at Dunkin’ Donuts.
