NORTHEAST WISCONSIN – Residents across Northeast and Central Wisconsin are being urged to prepare for dangerously cold weather as temperatures and wind chills are forecast to plunge well below zero this weekend. Forecasters say wind chill values could fall into the minus-20 to minus-30 degree range, with some areas potentially reaching minus-33. Air temperatures may not rise above zero on Saturday or Sunday, creating life-threatening conditions during one of the coldest stretches so far this season.
Because of the extreme cold, the National Weather Service says it will likely issue either a Cold Weather Advisory or an Extreme Cold Warning, depending on how wind chill values develop over the next 24 to 48 hours. Meteorologist with the National Weather Service Kurt Kotenberg says officials are closely monitoring wind speeds, which will determine the severity of the alert.
Residents are strongly urged to take precautions, limit time outdoors, and ensure pets are kept inside. Local agencies remind the public to check on elderly neighbors and prepare vehicles and homes for dangerous cold before the weekend arrives.
