SURING, WI- A bomb threat at Suring Public School triggered a large emergency response Tuesday morning, but authorities say no explosive device was found and there is no ongoing threat to students or the community.
According to the Oconto County Sheriff’s Office, the county’s Emergency Dispatch Center received a report of an active threat at 9:42 a.m. on December 9, 2025. The Suring Police Chief and Oconto County deputies were immediately sent to the school.
Initial investigation revealed the threat originated from a student’s Chromebook, where the student had typed the message “I have a bomb.” The district’s Securely Technology Monitoring System flagged the statement and alerted school administrators, who quickly notified law enforcement.
School officials enacted the district’s Emergency Response Plan, and students and staff were evacuated from the building as a precaution while law enforcement conducted a systematic sweep of the facility. After a thorough search, no suspicious items were found.
Authorities say a person of interest has been identified, and the incident remains under active criminal investigation.
The response involved multiple agencies, including the Suring Police Department, Oconto County Sheriff’s Office, Suring Public School District, Wisconsin State Patrol, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, Gillett Police Department, Brown County Sheriff’s Office, Suring Fire Department, Gillett Area Ambulance Service, Saint John’s Lutheran School, and Lamers Bus Lines.
Officials emphasize that there is no ongoing threat to Suring Public School or the surrounding community.
