KESHENA, WI – The Menominee Nation Eagles Girls Basketball team opened their season with a win over the visiting Oconto Falls Panthers on Thursday evening.
The Eagles defense held the Panthers in check all game with multiple strip takeaways and blocked shots and allowing nothing in the paint for the Panthers. It was a quick 5 point swing by Urijah Reevis at the end of the 1st half to put the Eagles up 27-11.
The 2nd half started and it was all the same for the Eagles as key defensive stops and buckets on the other end of the floor got the Eagles out to as much as a 20 point lead at 2 different times in the 2nd half.
Rylie Shallow led all scorers for Oconto Falls with 11 points, Neala Horkman had 9 points, Braelyn Schultz had 5 points and Ella Jahnke had 3 points.
For Menominee Nation, Urijah Reevis led with 14 points, Dacey Webster had 10 points, Natalie Peters and Mylee Dixon both had 5 and Aaliyah Corn had 3 points. Every Eagle got into the game at one point and all but one scored.
With the win, Menominee Nation beat Oconto Falls for the 1st time in 4 years and improve to 1-0 on the season. Oconto Falls dropped to 0-1.
