SHAWANO, WI – As scams continue to rise across the area, local officials are reminding residents to stay alert and act fast if they become a victim. Peyton Chapman with Premier Community Bank of Marion says anyone who accidentally shares personal or banking information with a scammer should contact their bank immediately. “Once you give your information out, always call your local banks right away so we can work on keeping your accounts secure and your money safe,” Chapman said.
Shawano County Sheriff George Lenzner is also warning about a less common scam that’s becoming more frequent, fake online pet sales. Lenzner says scammers often post fraudulent ads and then demand additional money for vaccinations or transportation after an initial payment. He urges residents to verify sellers and never send money before seeing the animal in person.
Authorities say staying cautious and double-checking sources can help prevent costly mistakes this holiday season.
