SHAWANO, WI – The Salvation Army’s red kettles are once again a familiar sight around Shawano this holiday season, but organizers say they still need plenty of help from the community to keep the tradition going strong.
Organizer Jen Bisterfeldt says local residents, families, and community groups are encouraged to “adopt a kettle” for a day and help ring bells at locations across the city. “We’re pushing to get community groups, families, or anyone to adopt a day at a particular location,” Bisterfeldt said. Volunteers can sign up online and choose their own shifts, making it easy to give back during the busy holiday season.
This year, some kettles may also be located indoors instead of outside for safety and security reasons. “The kettles aren’t out without a ringer by them, just for safety purposes,” Bisterfeldt explained. “At most stores, the kettles are behind the service counter.”
