SHAWANO, WI – As the school year continues and harvest season winds down, Shawano Police Chief Mike Musolff is reminding drivers to stay alert and practice patience on local roads.
Musolff says it’s important for motorists to slow down in school zones, even when children aren’t visibly present. “We do watch the school zones quite often and we want to make sure that all kids get to school safe and get from school safe,” Musolff said. “That’s the main reason those speed limits are so low there.”
He adds that drivers who wish to avoid reduced speeds should plan alternate routes rather than speeding through school areas. Musolff is also urging caution in rural areas, where farm equipment and combines may still be on the move despite the end of harvest.
“Try to be patient,” Musolff said. “They’re doing a job that benefits us all. We all wish they would pull over, but they don’t have to. They can keep trucking down the road, so try to exercise some patience.”
Musolff says these vehicles have the right of way, and slowing down and staying alert can help prevent accidents as both the school year and farming season continue.
