SHAWANO, WI- The Shawano School District has announced that Kayla Brendemuehl will be recommended to serve as the district’s next Activities Director, succeeding Joel Wondra, who will retire on December 2 after years of dedicated service to the Shawano community.
A Shawano Community High School graduate, Brendemuehl has spent the past eight years serving the district in several roles, including teacher, coach, and associate principal. Her strong ties to the community and her leadership within Shawano Schools make her a natural fit to guide the district’s athletic and co-curricular programs into the future.
“As a Shawano graduate, I take great pride in this community and the experiences we offer our students,” Brendemuehl said. “I’m excited to build on our strong foundation of athletics and activities, helping every student find their passion, develop their skills, and represent Shawano with pride.”
Superintendent Kurt Krizan said Brendemuehl’s wide-ranging experience and dedication to students have made her an outstanding leader within the district. “Kayla has consistently demonstrated strong leadership, teamwork, and a deep commitment to students,” Krizan said. “Her experience as a teacher, coach, and administrator gives her a unique perspective on how to support both students and staff in achieving excellence across all of our programs.”
The district also extended its gratitude to Joel Wondra for his many years of service, recognizing his lasting contributions to Shawano athletics and activities.
Pending Board of Education approval, Brendemuehl will officially begin her new role as Activities Director on December 2, 2025.
