SHAWANO, WI – With the first snow of the season right around the corner, Shawano Police Chief Mike Musolff is reminding drivers to slow down and stay alert as road conditions begin to change. Musolff says too many drivers forget how quickly the first snow can make roads slick and visibility poor.
“Just remember that first snow, everybody drives like normal, not thinking about it,” Musolff said. “So slow down and pay attention to what’s going on.”
He adds that drivers should always adjust their speed and prepare for changing weather, whether it’s rain, snow, or fog. Musolff also urges residents to take a few minutes now to make sure their vehicles are ready for winter, checking tires, windshield wipers, and fluids to prevent accidents once the snow begins to fall.
“Take a look at your tires too,” Musolff said. “If they’re bald and that snow happens, you’re not going to be able to stop no matter how you try.”
