SHAWANO COUNTY, WI – Shawano County Clerk Raymond Rigsby says new voting machines are on the way and while they come with a price tag, they’ll bring long-term savings and smoother election operations.
Rigsby says “The county will spend about $8,000 to bring in the new tabulator-style machines, which includes shipping, testing, and training for clerks and election workers”. The machines will replace the county’s older touchscreen models that rely on QR code technology, which must be phased out by 2027 or 2028 under new state rules.
While the upgrade comes with some upfront costs, Rigsby says the investment will reduce maintenance needs and streamline election processes in the years ahead. Towns and villages across the county — including Aniwa and Bonduel, are among those preparing to make the switch.
The new machines are expected to be ready for use ahead of the 2026 primary election.
