SHAWANO, WI – With Halloween fast approaching, Shawano Police Chief Mike Musolff is reminding families to make visibility and patience top priorities while trick-or-treating. Musolff says wearing bright or reflective clothing and carrying a flashlight can help drivers see children after dark, when many local trick-or-treat hours take place. He also encourages families to allow extra time when crossing streets and to make sure cars are fully stopped before stepping into the roadway.
For drivers, Musolff’s message is simple, slow down and stay alert. He says that even though neighborhood speed limits are 25 miles per hour, motorists should go no faster than 10 to 15 miles per hour during trick-or-treating hours, since children may dart out unexpectedly.
