SHAWANO, WI – Speeding continues to be a growing concern in Shawano, particularly in busy areas like East Green Bay Street, where Police Chief Mike Musolff says one bad decision can lead to tragedy in a split second. “We just need to think about it, people,” Musolff said. “You never know when somebody’s going to run out in front of you, do you really need to drive 35 in a 25?”
Musolff says the Shawano Police Department may soon consider adjusting speed limits or expanding enforcement zones to help reduce risks and improve safety for both drivers and pedestrians. One measure that’s already making a difference, he noted, is the installation of pedestrian crossing lights on East Green Bay Street — a tool that’s helping drivers spot and stop for people crossing the road.
“When they hit that button for those lights, you can see them right away,” Musolff said, adding that the city hopes to install additional lights near the Mountain Bay Trail if fundraising efforts are successful.
