SHAWANO, WI- The Shawano Hawks boys soccer team made history Tuesday night, earning their first-ever Bay Conference championship with a dominant 6-1 win over New London.
“The boys executed tonight and they played team soccer offensively and defensively.”
Junior Brayden Mead led the way with a hat trick, finding the back of the net three times to power the Hawks’ offense. Anderson Schmidt, Dylan Gartner, and Grayson Swedberg each added goals in the victory as Shawano controlled the match from start to finish.
“We wanted to come out with this one so we can get the one seed in the Regional, and I had my chances tonight and they went in,” Mead said.”
Shawano can still win the title outright if New London beats Fox Valley Lutheran on Friday.
“This group keeps working their tails off and you can only control so much,” Shawano Coach Brooks said. “This was one of their goals.”
The Hawks’ strong defensive play and crisp passing helped seal the program’s first conference title, capping an impressive regular season. Shawano will now turn its attention to postseason play with momentum on their side.
